veterinary triage for veterinary practices

Can it wait until morning, or not?

for your customers

Owners find out tonight whether it can wait until morning, and what to do meanwhile. Practical steps, never a diagnosis.

The job

A veterinary practice lives two days at once: the consultations, and the evening, when owners write to find out whether it can wait until morning. Practice software holds the animal record, the vaccination reminders and the billing; nobody designed it to answer at 10pm to somebody worried about their cat. The material already exists on site: the on-call hours, the prices, and above all the advice before a consultation that gets repeated ten times a week. This lab would hold it in one place and do veterinary triage the only defensible way, by directing and never diagnosing.

What it would keep

Worth more in month six than in week one.

The collections belong to the lab, not to any single magik. Every magik reads them and every run adds to them, which is why this lab is worth more in month six than in week one.

The same lab under two brands: only the logo, the address and the colour change.
Your colours, in one field.
Your logo and your favicon, on every public surface.
Your own address, on a verified domain.

On the Pro plan, and not needed to take a lab. A fully bespoke theme exists as an upgrade, hand built rather than self-serve.

Why not another web app built for your trade

Built around your business, not the average one.
What it knows, what it keeps and what it does are yours to write, and two businesses running the same idea end up with two different labs.
Its sources are not a closed list.
A vertical tool ships with the sources its vendor chose, and that is the ceiling. A lab can be pointed at the ones your business actually runs on, connected from your own accounts, and everything they bring back lands in your collections, which you own and can take with you.

A tool built for exactly your job, and only that, will go deeper at that one job. This is for the jobs nothing covers, or the ones spread across three tools today.

What is triage in a veterinary practice?

Sorting what has to be seen now from what can wait, and telling the owner what to do meanwhile. In a practice it is usually done at reception, in a hurry, on the phone. This idea handles the written version of it, on the instructions the practice has already agreed.

Does it use a five level triage scale?

It carries no clinical scale of its own. What it follows is the practice instructions you wrote: which situations mean come now, which mean call the on-call service, which can wait until morning. Importing a scale from elsewhere would put someone else clinical judgement under your name.

Reception normally does this triage.

And it stays that way for anything on the phone or at the counter. What this takes is the written messages, in the evening and at the weekend, where the alternative today is no answer at all. Reception gets the exchange already written down rather than a callback to make.

An owner writes at 10pm because their dog swallowed something.

They get the practical steps you wrote and a direction: come now, call the on-call service, or wait until morning. Never a diagnosis, never a medicine. The list of what is never answered here is a resource of the practice, and it comes before everything else.

Sorting cases at a distance on an animal is delicate.

Which is why the lab directs rather than assesses, and always leans careful: when in doubt, it brings them in. What it does well is the cases where the instruction is stable and known to the practice, and it hands over everywhere else.

Post-visit instructions always get given out loud.

And they get forgotten on the drive home. Written once into your practical instructions, they leave with the owner in the words of the practice, and the questions that come back the next day find an answer without ringing reception.

An owner asks whether waiting until morning would be cheaper.

It can give the fees the practice publishes, if you wrote them down, and it stops there. Cost never becomes a reason to wait: the direction comes from your instructions about the situation, and a case that means come now says come now whatever the hour costs.

Why this rather than a tool built for my trade?

A tool built for exactly veterinary practices, and only that, will go deeper at that one job. This lab is for the jobs no tool covers, or the ones spread across three tools today, and it runs under your name.

Every audience is still open.

Nobody has taken a square on this idea yet. You declare your audience when you take the lab (“roofers in Brittany”, “plumbers around Paris”), and two people can start from the same idea on two different audiences without getting in each other’s way.
